The labor of any spiritual master throughout history has been to help human beings transcend the ego. The very presence of the master is against the phenomenon of the ego and human conditioning. Therefore, it is expected that different egos will feel hurt, harmed, offended, and humiliated, directly or indirectly, by the guru's teachings and actions. If we understand this simple fact, it is logical that society, which is a collective ego, has defamed, attacked, tortured, and even murdered masters and gurus.

You mentioned Jesus. Jesus said to his disciple: "He that loveth their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:37) Imagine how the ego of this disciple's parents felt.

How could that disciple’s family feel, after the disciple asked Jesus permission to go and bury his father, and received the answer: "Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead!" (Matthew 8:21-22)

Do you think the relatives of one of Jesus’ disciple would like the answer he received from his master when he asked him to go and bid farewell to his parents? Jesus said: "No man, having put his hand on the plow and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God." (Luke 9:61-62)

Society loves those who contribute to the continuation of its circus.
Why so many teachers have been attacked by society?

I've never understood why so many teachers have been criticized, attacked and even killed. As you mentioned, it is a fact that, from Jesus to Osho, great teachers have been attacked by society throughout history. Why there is so much hatred towards such elevated beings?
If such great spiritual masters like Jesus, Buddha and many others were criticized and had detractors, why would I not have them? By accepting the responsibility of guiding other people on the spiritual path, criticism is inevitable. Jealousy and envy come together with success.

I am very fond of the phrase mistakenly attributed to Quixote, which says: "They bark, Sancho, which means that we advance."

Perhaps it is best to explain this idea with a story.

A wise man was preaching in a public square surrounded by people who had come to hear his teachings. The crowd was milling around him, who delighted them with his words and thoughts.

In the crowd, there was one person who was writhing inside with envy, and looked like a bomb about to explode. He could not bear that everyone’s focused their attention on the wise man, and he did not accept his wonderful wisdom.

Suddenly, the spectator began to insult the wise man, screaming lies about his private life as he tried to discredit him. The wise man was unmoved and continued his speech. This made the person livid with anger. Leaving the square, the person continued to shout severe insults at the wise man.

On his way home, the angry spectator thought about what happened and, with each step, felt calmer. Gradually, he became aware of his wrongful behavior.

Finally, he was feeling more peaceful and realized that he had been seized by an envy that brought him to anger. He felt remorseful and decided to return to the square to talk to the sage.

Back in the square, made his way through the crowd that watched with both surprise and suspicion. He lowered his head and said to the wise man:

"Please forgive me for my lack of consideration and respect."

The sage, approached him and lifted the spectator’s chin with his hand so they could look one another in the eyes, and said:

"I have nothing to forgive, because I did not feel offended."

"But," the spectator said, "I've shouted and gravely insulted you, discrediting you in public."

The sage asked: "What would you do if someone gives you apresent that you neither want nor know how to use?"

"Well, I wouldn’t accept it, I would refuse the object," said the spectator, convinced of this.

"And what can do the one who offers the object? What is the alternative left for the one who offers that object?" challenged the sage.

"There is none other than to keep it," replied the man.

Finally, the sage replied: "That's what happened to your words of disrepute and insult. I refused to accept them, simply because I do not know what to do with them."

Usted menciona a Jesús.
